nope, grands are actually the smallest of the Ekkies. Sophie is an Aru red sided Ekkie and weighed in at 498g on Friday. And as young as she is she has some growing to do yet too!! Maybe red sided and vos mix?

I think now that the squarish look is something the girls do when they are perching contentedly. I noticed Talulah doing this last night and tonight when settling down for nighttime. She should be around full weight by now, a little lighter now that she's fledging, so I can't see her ever hitting almost 500 grams! She just seems big to me because she grew so fast.

Grands depend on who you talk to. I forgot who says that grands are the smallest.

Many think it goes Si, RS, Grand, then vos, but some think it goes Grand, Si, RS, then vos.

according to graham taylor and dale thompson grands are larger than SIs, and they are who I go with.

she deffinetly has the SI blue eye ring coming in, and her blue is not muted purple like a grand. I heard many eckies in US are cross bred because nobody knew there were subspecies to start with, so as she matures I'll keep checking back at these pictures. thanks for posting the site.

the grand and vos are the only ones with out the blue eye ring. There are also two types of Red Sided. The "Red Sided" is a bit bigger then an SI and stocky in build. The Aru Red Sided is almost as big as a Vos and long and slender in build. The Aru is the more common RS in the USA but............. all the mix breeding going on......... lol
The Grand is to the Vos what the SI is the the Aru RS. Mini me!! lol

yup Jim I think that's it, I bet she has some RS in her, accounts for her longer appearance.
