Today I am one step closer to realizing a dream I have had since I was a young girl with a Albino Parakeet named Snow Ball. Yesterday I had my home visit with her foster mommy, she was very nice and we had a nice visit.
I should be hearing from them soon. I had the opportunity to spend time with the U2 at our monthly meeting and we liked each other very much! I have spent 20 years learning about cockatoo's, If I was not able to actually have one of my own at that time, I would admire them from a far. She is 8 years old and has been a plucker in the past, amazingly she has no bald spots and has a breast full of beautiful snow white down.
She loves to shred so I will be prepared with toys and activities to keep her amused in her humble abode, but she will have over 3 hours a day on a specially designed natural tree pen my husband and I will construct.
With all this in mind I am very much open to dietary do's and don't s. There are numerous conflicts in the 2 community concerning this topic. I am not interested in pleasing my lovely for a short moment but keeping her happy inside and out for a lifetime, so feel free to give me your oppinions.

Thanks Everyone!:14:

Hello everyone,

This is my first post, and sorry in advance cause its a long one...

My family took in a Bare-Eyed today from a family that said they couldn't give it the attention it needed. Personally, I know nothing about cockatoos but another family member does (who was out for the evening).

So, the bird settled in and showed a lot of attention towards me. I didn't think anything of it and when he came out of the cage and climbed on my shoulder I pet him and he snuggled in for a long while. I assumed that he was making up for the lack of attention that he was shown in its previous home. Then, he became aggressive towards my son and daughter (nipping hand and drawing some blood) but was perfect towards me. No one else can pet him or really come near me if he's out of his cage.

After reading some of these posts I realize what I did. The bird is 11 so it must be at sexual maturity. I was petting his whole body and I totally made this poor bird aggressive towards everyone with my mistake. He was cooing at me and making other noises and I just thought he was being sweet. He puffs his feathers out really big when he sees me now and bangs on the cage and bobs his head to come out.

My question is HELP! How do I undo this? I will feel awful if the bird my son has wanted for so very long will now be aggressive towards him. Should I stay away for a while? I now know to limit my petting to the head and neck.

Thank you so much for any assistance you can provide me.

I need help....Maxie

Maxie has a prolapse. I have dealt with a prolapse before, in another animal, and it wasn't good. She has been to the Vet Avian&Exotic Animal Clinic of Indianapolis (One of the best). We spent the day yesterday. Had tests run, x-rays ect. Her white cell count was up a little and she was mildly anemic.
Dr. Lennox thinks this is from her inflamed uterus. She said Maxie was in fantastic shape otherwise.
Maxie was given a birth control shot to get her out of the breeding mood. she was also put on baytril 2-x a day.

Her prolapse does not stay out, it only comes out when she poo's.

I need to convince Maxie that everything we do is not foreplay. If I put her in a carrier and take her in the car, she tries to feed me. If I make eye contact, she pants. She even thinks a shower and blow drying is foreplay and will pant. I don't snuggle with her and I quit feeding her warm moist foods.

I wonder if watching the boy Too's is kind of like watching porn for her??? Granted, they are not the object of her desire. They might be getting her worked up though.

Maxie is not a player or much of a chewer. Her world revolves around me. The more I try to change it, the more clingy she becomes. Like she is afraid I will leave her. Her first owner died and I always thought that might be the reason. All she is allowed to do at this time, is step up on my hand to be transported. No other touching.

There are some brilliant minds here. I need to help Maxie build the strength up in her pelvic muscles. Anyone got any ideas on kegel excercises for a bird? What kind of movement would make that muscle tighten?
