so last time I posted I was asking about reccomendations and help for Sapphire - I had her for about a week and a half and she wouldnt step up she would retreat from me in her cage and I didnt want to push it.....
I had several local people (Macaa onwers, breeders and two people from a local parrot rescue) tell me that I have to get her up on my arm or she would dominate me....
Last Friday night a couple of friends from "Heaven Sent Aviary" (Parrot Rescue) came to my house and got her out of the cage - we brought her upstairs and put her on a play perch. SHE PRETTY MUCH OPENED UP IMMEDIATELY!!! She was stepping up on me on command and each and every day since it has been AWEOSME. She has gone IN ONE WEEK from retreating from me and squawking to coming to me, cuddling with me, and wanting to be with me. I just can not tell you how happy I am.
I went out Wednesday and bought her a 6-foot tall by 5-foot wide Java tree for my family room and she is just loving life!!!
She lets me grab and play with her beak, she loves to cuddle up to me and she absolutely ha turned 180 degrees I just cant thank Marnie, Rob and Joe enough!!!!
I will post pics of her on the tree after I downloas some from my camera.

Maya and Charlie have been on a Zupreem Fruit Pellet BUDGIE-size diet. :scared::32:

I talked with Charlie's avian vet this morning and was reassured that Charlie is not contagious as long as I am diligent about keeping him separated from my flock. He can be in the same room (it's not an airborne thing) but he can never have physical contact with the other birds. I am TOTALLY fine with that and it will not be hard for me to maintain, as I have a large enough house.

So, I am off to the supply store to spend a bomb....

I am almost scared to post this (afraid I'll jinx myself again!), but I am SOOOOO excited, I can hardly think straight....

I get phone calls almost daily from people who need help with, or wanting to re-home, their birds. Usually I am able to give advice and support, sometimes not... and sometimes I am able to facilitate re-homing them.

I got just such a call last weekend. A very good friend of mine was at a local parrot conference and was given a lead on 3 parrots needing new homes. A Blue-Fronted Amazon, an Umbrella Cockatoo and my dreambird, a Greenwing Macaw. My friend knew I had just recently experienced yet another bitter disappointment regarding a Greenwing baby. I was about to put a deposit down and was notified by the breeder when they were checking the nest to see if the eggs had hatched, the parent-birds got angry and destroyed the nest and therefore the eggs. So no baby Greenwing. Greenwings, while not RARE, are definitely not a common bird here in Canada ... and therefore alot harder to acquire. Pat is very, very lucky to have found Chatot!

So anyway (sorry I'm long-winded)... I went to my parrot club meeting last night and the woman was there, who was trying to find homes for these birds. In fact, she had the Umbrella with her, as she is fostering it. My friend introduced us and this woman said she would contact the owner to find out when I could hook up with him.

Well... she called this morning and we are picking up the Greenwing and the Amazon tomorrow night!! NO ADOPTION FEE!! They come with 3 cages, 3 carriers, toys and food.

Here is the story I have been told so far.

The Greenwing is a 10 1/2 year old female named MAYA. The Blue Fronted Amazon is a 9 1/2 year old male named CHARLIE. The BFA has had cancer, now currently healthy, but they want me to take him because they know I will stay on top of his "possible future health issues" if the cancer were to return. I cannot take the U2 because I am at my limit for "dust birds" in my flock. But I know someone who would take him in a minute. So I am working on that.

These birds, for the entirety of their lives, have been owned by a COMPANY. They were and are being kept in cages in the front lobby of their office. AS DECORATIONS! :32: The company was sold, and THANKFULLY, the new owner has a big heart and knows how WRONG this is and enlisted the help of this woman.

So, it seems, I finally getting my Greenwing.:icon_biggrin: And a BFA, just to "round out" my flock!:ywink:

I posted this in the budgie section, but I am going to post it here to since you all know the story behind Hannah....

Not sure if you guys read or not, but you can read about "Hannah" in the Macaw section... She came from a 70 year old woman who absolutely adores her birds. She has several small birds, and every single one of them is spoiled absolutely rotten.

I have shown her the photos of my budgies and now she is on a "english budgie hunt". They are not very easy to find, and when you do...they are kind of expensive. It almost makes me just want to give her mine... I mean, I ADORE my budgies, but I know it would bring so much happiness to her life. She literally LIVES for her little birds, I think it gives her a reason to wake up everyday. She gets up and cuts up fruit and veggies for them, she sits and talks to them all day... She is just an elderly woman who stays at home all the time. It is just her and her birds. She has a huge nice sunroom... I mean, it REALLY is kind of like birdy heaven for little birds.

She did GIVE me Hannah. I mean, I didnt ask for her, or need her, or expect her...or anything even close, but still.

I dunno. What would you do????

Okay, so Hannah has made a complete turn around. She is now in LOVE with me. She hasnt bitten me again, and I still have all of my fingers. Now I have a new problem...

I CANNOT get her to stop throwing up for me. EVERY SINGLE TIME she is near me she thinks she has to feed me. I seriously cannot get her to stop. I have tried putting her back in the cage, I have tried ignoring it, I have tried distracting her... What do I do? It is very sweet, especially coming from Miss Evil...but it is becoming a problem. I cant just NOT ever touch her or take her out... I am out of ideas and very open to suggestions.

It is not just one time either...since I ignore the behavior or say NO, or put her away...she will just keep trying to regurge for me...over, and over, and over. I know it is not a health problem or anything because it is ONLY when she is with me. In her cage or on the playstand she never does this. (Unless I am interacting with her)

HELP!!!!! I want to interact with my bird without having to change clothes or spend the whole time trying to get her to NOT throw up!

Sooo much harder than all the other types of travel. o.0

Okay, so I'm getting this uber awesome impreza hatchback, complete with delicious room in the back perfectly suited for storing an antsy macaw on a long trip that you don't want to be crawling all ove ryou while you drive down the highway or crushed by an airbag when his antics inevitably make you crash into oncoming traffic.

But...here's my dilemma. Travel cages. If you haven't noticed, macaws are BEASTS and that damned tail gets in the way of everything. By way of cloth measuring tape, I have determined that Etienne is a ridiculous 31 inches long.

So...I know that dog carriers are suggested, but WHERE do I find one that long that I can still carry? There is an expensive acrylic macaw carrier I've been eyeing...but one, it looks rather cumbersome and two, it doesn't have much room in width at all.

So...any suggestions? Every dog carrier I find seems to want to go no more than 20 something inches. I am in neeeed of delicious help. Pretty please? ^^

i be worried? Also, I noticed that on much of her larger tail feathers there were bumps, or nodes or something. Obviously these are weak spots because where they are since she has learned to preen more , they are now broken in those spots. I have cut off a couple of them at the break but there are still several more. What should i do about that? Thanks in advance for any help or advice!
