Hello All,

After surfing a few Forums, We decided to safely land here. My name is Ken and we just adopted, or I see it, RESCUED a bonded pair of Amazon Blue Fronts. We were looking for an Amazon, and found them on Craigslist. We have never breed before, and will do our homework if we decide to attempt it. I didn't go out looking for a bonded pair, but was curious and went to see these. The previous owner had them i the back yard, in a very nasty, dirty cage. He said they were not very friendly, but when I walked up to the cage, the male came over and allowed me to pet his the the top of his head. I instantly fell in love with both of them. And decided I was going to take them home and give them a better environment. I was also touched by the fact that when the owner attempted to net the female, the male went to protect her by attacking the net. I had him stop, and loaded there cage in the back of my truck covered it and drove them home slowly.

He told me they were 5 years old, he has had them for 11 months, they laid 2 clutches for him one in January (not fertile) then another in April where he said one was hathched but was later died in the nest. I am questioning the age, as they have split bands on with a set of numbers which I have not been able to make out yet, so I am assuming they were wild and brought into USA.

The birds have always been caged outdoors, and said the previous owner was up in Placerville Ca. outdoors where it does get cold

I have the pair we named them Romeo, and Juliet (I know kinda corny :) )
Purchased a nice cage for them, and have them placed in the back yard.

I have been doing alot of research, and have a few books coming, but have a question about keeping them outside in regards to temps. It gets maybe in the 30s at times here, Can these birds deal with that? I am covering them at night, and am looking at placing maybe a space heater somehow.

SHould I relocate this pair indoors? We have the room, but I have been reading how much better it is for them outside. Any thoughts on this?

The other thing I would like to ask about, is he said he has never taken them to the VET. I have found a good Avairian vet. and curious the best way to get them into a carrier, with them being not hand tame.

I am going to wait a week or so before I attempt to take them, so they can adjust to there new home.

I have many more questions, but wanted to introduce ourselves

So I came back. I started on BB about 2 years ago when I lost my Rudy. To post about him being missing. Did not know where this was going to lead me. Well I have gone down a path I never expected. Although My Rudy (African Grey) is still missing. He is still in my heart and I miss him everyday. But through losing him. I have come to many places I never knew existed. This Place being one of them. Rudy has brought many wonderful people into my life. And a few I wish I could forget. But that’s another story. Rudy has also brought me several other greys that I have come to Love. I have done extensive searches for their owners. After risking my life, health and climbing trees to rescue them. They are for sure, sent to me for a reason. So I really just want to talk birds.. As I do not get to do that much. I am sure most of you do not remember me from back then so I figure why not recap a bit for you. Just to give you the chance to get to know me all over again. Ask me anything you would like. I am an open book. I am Looking forward to making some new friends, to share ideas, and to get and give advice to other Loving birdie people.
Thanks for reading my banter.

Hi: I'm new here - and really only have one question. I have had parrots for many years - but this is the first time I've ever had a canary. I will be moving back to Alaska next summer. We will be driving. I'm not concerned about my 2 sun conures. They're healthy, well adjusted, and love to ride. But I am concerned about my canary. Canaries aren't as hearty as parrots so I'm wondering if it's even smart to take him along. I hate to rehome him - he's such a joy and I love him dearly. But I don't want to risk his life if he gets too stressed out either. Does anyone have suggestions for me? It will take about 10 days of travel - staying in motels every night.
Thanks.....Becky

Hello! My name is Peter. I've had budgies for about 6 years, and I recently became the proud "papa" of a three month old green Quaker named Willow. I have four human children, three of whom share my love of animals in general and birds in particular. Together, we bred and raised 25 beautiful budgies for some special friends and family members over the past two years and had a wonderful experience. Now, we are enjoying our Quaker and working very hard to give him all that he needs to be a well-socialized, happy bird.

I am very impressed with this forum so far and look forward to learning a lot and meeting others who share my love of birds.

Hi! I'm Shelly from Texas. I have 6 parakeets that I adore and I love to talk to others about their birds and look at their photos and videos. I've wanted a large bird my whole life but have just recently started working my way there. I started with Zebra finches years and years ago. Then I had a canary for many years. I have now moved up to budgies. See - I'm getting there!

So I am actively seeking the "next step." One of my best friends got a quaker and he is very happy with it. It seems like what I am looking for but I also have recently fallen in love with Jenday Conures from photos but I would like to meet one in person.

Yeah, I have a few ideas where I want to go next. So you will probably see me around here asking a hundred questions!!!

Nice to "meet" everyone!
