or mega mash. Anyway. Due to life stuff I'm not feeling on top of the world so I went searching the net for different fresh mixes. Different mash recipes and such. You know Avian miracle, Mike's mana mash and several others. I left out most of the fruit as in my limited experience fruit makes the mash into mush, tho I may look into some dried fruit to toss in anyway.
So tomorrow after I pick up the ol' paycheck its off to Whole foods. Below is my shopping list. Intense or what?

sounds like the fids will be well fed !!
please share the recipes you use and the results! looks like your flock is going to be eating well!
ok, I waited a week to post as I wanted to see what the birds thought of it. They ALL love it. Even Benji who is my most finicky eater.
Making this batch was a "what the heck did I get myself into" kinda thing. I made the mistake of doing most of the shopping at Whole Foods so it got kinda pricey. About $80 by the time I was done. That was getting small quantities of everything I could.
Out of the 62 items on the list I found about 50 of them. Some frozen, most fresh. The one item I really wanted to find I wasn't able to, Schizandra Berries, it seems they only come in pill form. I googled those and they look like an awesome addition.
I soaked and cooked the beans about 20 minutes or so. My fids prefer them not soft. I hunted down the thread where Outlaw gives her boil and cover 20 minutes cook rice recipe, which worked very well I might add.
Put all the greens thru the food processor. I have a very large pan I use for making mash as well as a couple very large bowls. They weren't enough!!! The over all mix came out to a hair over 5 gallons of food!!!
Let me tell you it smelled strong too. Very spicey as I thought it would.
To be honest, I actually have no idea what most that stuff is on the list. Thankfully asking for help in the produce department is not the same as asking for directions so I was able to do it.
I tend to put most of the items thru the food processor as my birds prefer it small. I used to do the beans that way too but I don't anymore. Benji doesn't like beans anyway. When I got to 14 quart bags filled I quit packin' and tossed the rest out. Thats more than enough for two months and I know me, I won't wait that long to make another batch. I'll change it up next time to see what happens.
Sounds like alot of food! They'll be eating good. Glad they liked it. Crystal
