MA or RI Looking for a new parrot... (rescue maybe)

Hi. My name is Jacqueline. I am the proud mother to a Goffin's F Cockatoo named Sam and aunknown sexed Sun Conure named Chicklet. I have rehabbed wildlife and worked with my family's animal shelter for years. Currently, I am an at home mother and wife.

I am working on a bird room as I think I found my love, lol. Both my birds are rescues and will be with me until there last day,.. or mine.

We would like to rescue or home a bird/parrot for someone who needs it. We would consider even taking two if they needed to be together to transition easier. I am willing to drive.

If you or someone you know could help us help them, we would be appreciative. Also know, birds with special needs are welcome also. I own my own home and have plenty of room, play toys, stands, perches, California Kings that are open all day, fresh fruits and veggies, along with pellets and some seeds,.. and they go out into the yard for daily sun too!

Let me know,.. we'll be waiting! :) Thanks

Why does that sound too good to be true? Don't most of us here provide the same for our birds? Not saying it can't be a scam just don't see why this particular posting needs a beware sign.

Ruby Muse, I just read this post. I would and DO welcome anyone that comes here to see all we can offer. That was in June. We had started building a page. Tarzan's House I am sorry you think because people own a few parrots and open their home to others that it is a scam. you almost seem jealous or insecure. Either way, we have done wonderfully! I have my family behind me which founded it's own shelter and animal control years ago and I also have another bird rescue I work closely with and continue to learn from everyday! Maybe before you post inaccurate opinions, you should speak to me. That was plain rude. We welcome all adopters and families surrendering here. We also keep in touch etc. My life is completely devoted to animals, so much so that I am made fun of by friends. I work my butt off to provide thebest to them all and spend every penny I have to spoil them more. I make countless trips (hours long mind you) to help all animals. It's what I chose to devote my life to. I wouldn't have it any other way either! That ebing said, close your beak because I don't appreciate your comment. It's not too good to be true,.. It's what a good owner should always provide and people in rescue do so much more! It's not a hobby, it's not an impulse, it's a way of life here!

We never finished the website. you'd be amazed at the response we got so we stopped advertising. I also have a facility we are going to redo now and I am working on getting my own 501c3 and not behind my families. Is that too good to be true too?

I do drive, countless hours. I am an at home mother and my spouse owns a busniess so I can afford to help in this way. Also, usually, people who need to givce up birds in not so desirable situations don't have you sign contracts, lol. Usually, they are in fear of persecution when it's an abuse or neglect thing and aren't going to pull out a contract as they weren't too concerned with their bird in the first place. Many are just happy to see a friendly face willing to go above and beyond and help. I have the scars n my arms to prove it! You want to come visit, you are more than welcome. My home is open to any and my birds would gladly say hi,.. Although, I can now see my M2 throwing a nut at you, lol.

I think this can easily be solved, please post that you do NOT receive birds and then "rehome" them for any fee in excess of what you actually paid out of pocket for their food, medical care, as in you do not run a for profit business and flip birds. I think this would probably take care of most of the concerns.

    Thank You!

I wanted to follow up here just so there is no misunderstanding.

First, I am NOT making any insinuation that the OP is a backyard breeder or scamming in anyway, my previous post was only intended to suggest that an affirmation that was not happening in the name of a rescue might be helpful.

Second, I was NOT making any disparaging remarks about breeders, I LOVE MY BIRD BREEDERS AND OWE THEM BIG TIME. I got my Julio from a breeder and my incoming second, Valentine/Valentina (soon to be determined through DNA testing,) is from a great breeder. I have NO problem in these people making a profit, NONE. They provide great homes, they invest their time, money in raising handfed, hand tamed bird babies that are SUPER PETS from day one. Where in fact would the "newbie" bird adopter be without them? Not only for the quality of bird they provide but the EXCELLENT advice and one on one counseling and coaching as well.

Just wanted to make sure there was no misunderstanding here.

There are ways to speak to and about people and your original post was outta line. You were DEFINATELY mistaken. No one who does rescue makes money. I have no support by my husband and family behind me and I am ok with that until I can get my own 501c3. I am not a breeder either so wherever you got that,.. I have no clue. I know nothing off breeding nor do I intend on it.

Sometimes fees will never cover cost. I haven't ever adopted out a bird for more than $400 including a cage. Most have been Toos not that what I spend or ask for in fees is any of your business but it is what it is. I am not on trial here. you should be thankful for people like me,. People who spend every dime in this type of life. My fees are mine and really, I don't have to explain myself to you and I do still think your way out of line. If you were an adopter or interested, then we would talk,.. not of a fee, but of your experience, what you could offer, and so forth and so on. A fee is least from my mind. Your idea and assumptions about ones who you do not know are innacurate and rude. you should learn some better manners. Not everyone is a bad seed (no pun intended) and instead of clarifying, an apology would have been better.

    Also, real rescues don't make money. If you were in it or ever did it, you would know this especially if your not 501c3. There is a constant bill at a Vets office. I fortunately have a wealthy husband to help. therefore, if I was looking to have a bunch of birds, I would buy them. Also, times are tough and I don't need to flip birds for a few hundred dollars which is even less in todays economy!! Lowlifes do that! But, thanks for the clarification. ;-{

Wanted to quote your post so it could not be edited.

I think your post speaks for itself, you were quite detailed in your posting. I have no apology to offer you, I was not impolite nor did I suggest anything fraudulent was happening. I can assure you that I will never be making contact seeking to secure a bird from you, so you will not be burdened by what you perceive to be mu rudeness.

Let's calm down. Having volunteered for rescue for years, and adopting from them I know the passion some of us have. And we have such radar up for anyone trying to make a profit off the backs of helpless animals. So, when we interrogate and ask, please don't be offended. It is just the process to determine are you friend or foe.
