    Talking ekkie and my schedule

Ok so I am thinking about getting an ekkie from a breeder.I know all the basics but I dont know if he will fit in my schedule.

Im 13 and first of all I go to school for 6 hours a day. I leave my house at
7;45 and dont get home until about 3;30 because I live far from my school. I wake up early enough to have at least a half hour holding my bird and even more out of the cage time.

My mom works from home so she would be able to hold the bird while I am at school as much as possible.

Then when i get home from school I have to do my homework so he would either have to chill on my shoulder or play on his cage or playstand until I am done then I will be able to actually play and cuddle. That would be a normal day.

If I have to say after i dont get out of school until 3 ;30 and dont get home until 4;00.

Then one day a week I have art and dont get home till about 6;00

I really think I can do this. I will have all the time after school so from like
3;30 to 9;30 when i got to bed he could be out. I think if i really make it something I want I can do it! What do you think? and be honest! good job reading this it was kinda long!

I really like how you are making a sound decision. I have no doubt you can do it, and because you are thinking ahead, you'll probably make a great ekkie owner. But (of course there is a but) why do you want to do this now? You don't need to be tied down to a bird at your age. You will have lots of opportunities in the next 10 - 12 years that you should jump at! If you have an Eclectus you will always have to think of the bird first, and if the opportunity involves a weekend away, or longer, you may have to miss out on lots of things. If your Mom wants an Eclectus and you agree to help her out while you are still living at home, I say go for it! Maybe you and your mom will decide that the bird should move with you when you get your own place. Talk to Jess (Bird Board member and Eclectus owner) a bit about this, in fact. She is older than you and has become a fantastic Eclectus owner, but she is considering an opportunity that will require her to leave her bird for several months or longer. Good luck in making this decision!

If your mom wants an eclectus for both of you I would say go for it.
But from experience (i'm 21 now) I would never have gotten one younger than I am now.
And I don't go to college or anything I just have a "somewhat full time career"
Maybe not everyone's lives change so dramatically and quickly as mine did
but I had to re-home my quaker and would not have gotten anything more needy than a quaker (eclectus are very needy)
I never could have imagined what changes my life has gone through since I was that young.
I had budgies and tiels at your age, and a quaker I thinK I got him when I was 15-16.
(My parents had nothing to do with my birds, so you are lucky if your mom helps you and likes your birds)

Yeah My mom is extremely invovled with my birds. In fact Simon the sun conure is actually her bird but we share them. She holds them all day as she works from home and their cages are in the same room too so even if they arent being held they can be out and supervised. The ekkie would be technically mine ( I would take him when I move out) but it would be held by both of us equally. Also this bird will not tie me down, my mom will always be there if i need to go somewhere, to take care of him and entertain him.
