My blue and gold Bart has lost 20 grams. I think over a couple weeks to a month. She's having a very heavy molting.

Would this effect her going off her food?

She's just been placed in a room with two new blue and golds that can be quite loud. Although I've had them six months this is the first theyve been exposed to each other....where they can see each other all day long. Maybe this has something to do with it to.

I'm getting some aloe detox to give to all my birds, however, was wondering if anyone else has had this experience.

All my birds vary some from month to month, a negative 20 grams is nothing to worry about. Yes, molting does affect their appetite. We give our birds more protein when molting, along with more showers and aloe.

I'm still concerned, if things dont improve I'm taking her to the vet. She didn't eat her usual mix that I make for her. So I made cream of wheat (her favorite) and put some handfeeding formula in it as well as some sunflower seeds and a spot of OJ for sweetness. She GOBBLED it.....I fed her on a spoon. I also made some muffins w/handfeeding formula in them as well as eggs, wh germ, a jar of organic veggie baby food....so I'm hoping to load her up with some of that to pack on some grams.

1040 isn't that low for a Blue and Gold but she was weighing in the 1065 range.

If your bird had lost over a hundred grams or looked sick, you should have been worried. Losing 20 grams is nothing and can happen very easy if they are molting or stressed for a few days. If you run to the vet every time they loose 20 grams you will go broke in 20 years....LOL. You need to relax and enjoy your birds, not worry about them every minute.

Sorry if I gave you the impression that I worry about them "every minute"--nothing could be further from the truth.

I'm very concerned about the health of all of my animals. I watch what I feed them, who I choose for a vet and everything else that touches their lives. To me it is all "part of the package"....

Ok what is the deal with aloe? How do you use it with them and what kind do you use? I would assume its for there skin. And how often do you use it? Now I have a Aloe plant could you use that. I am thinking you are talking about putting it in there water when giving them a bath.

Aloe is great for feathers and takes the itching out of molting. You can get George's aloe in a gallon container and use it in a spray bottle.
