    Smile Hi

Hi everybody. I'm new to birdboard and owning birds. I just got my first, a blue fronted amazon of course, a couple days ago. If anybody has suggestions for training or regular care I would be glad to hear them.

    Thanks,
    Issa

Hi Issa, congratulations on your new BFA! Male or female? Age? Is he/she tame?

Amazons need a low fat diet so either a natural whole foods diet with plenty of vegetables, grains and certain legumes, a little fruit, and some natural supplements is excellent (Shauna's Mash diet from Feeding Feathers Yahoo forum for more information). Or a pellet diet such as Harrison's (Lifetime, not High Potency) supplemented by fresh vegetables and fruit.

Tell us more about your new bird - name, etc.!

Make sure you spend plenty of time with your bird. Keep him happy and healthy with good food and water! I think finding old forums on here can really help with questions you might have. If you do have any questions, feel free to ask as well!

My BFA is a female named Aleta, it means winged in spanish. She is pretty tame. She will perch on my finger and talk to me but won't let me pet her. I have her on a pelleted diet, well changing her to one. I take her out every night and she likes to give me a new hair style, lol. She's smart and already can say her name and she says new things everyday.

she sounds like a very nice bird! And as you probably know the females are much easier than the males, especially with one of the "hot three" amazons like your BFA. Don't worry about scritching her head right now. She will let you know when she's ready - probably when she comes out of her first molt and needs help with those pin feathers!

She is a good bird, even my parents that said no at first love her. Thanks for the encouragement.

Here's a pic of her. Kinda a bad pic and it doesn't show her blue very well but best i have right now.
