I bought some of that Johnson's "green" cleaner. Claims to be mostly plant extracts, but who knows...

If you're planning to use the GSE as a cleaner, fine. Just don't give it to birds or use it on sprouts. It is not a natural product and has a chemical added that kills bacteria and will kill normal, healthy gut flora.

Good to hear that. There is a lot of misinformation out about GSE, and many people think it is a natural product. Without the added chemical, there is no anti-bacterial action to the plain extract of grapefruit seeds. I have seen articles that say to add it to drinking water (bad idea), and to add it to soaking or rinsing water for sprouts. Anything that will be ingested by the bird shouldn't have GSE on it.

As far as where to buy it, you can find lots of sources on-line by googling.

Hi, we have used GSE for many years and do put it in our birds water. I have used it for yeast, bacteria and parasite infections for birds and other animals. I know it works as I monitored it's progress with a microscope, wet mounts and gram stains.

Please read the attached link and make up your own mind about what it can do for you and your animals. If in doubt ask your vet about GSE.

You know you can use vinegar or lemon juice diluted with water for cleaning cages and toys. Both are natural and non-toxic, plus being very cheap. Unless you have an actual infection or have let things get foul (not fowl) there's no need to dis-infect anything, just give it a darn good wash in hot soapy water and or a clean with one of the mentioned solutions. The other good thing is it smells nice and if licked by birds causes no problems.

GSE is in my arsenal of stuff.... I use it to clean mostly ( GSE, water, white vinegar) and put about 5-10 drops in a gallon of water that I give to my reptiles, it helps to prevent water gross-ness. I've also used it for myself and son, with no problems.

I use pretty much dish soap and vinegar and water. I had read the GSE was a natural disinfectant, which is why I wanted to check it out for occasional use. Also, I was thinking about using it for cleaning in my home. I don't want to have to worry about toxic fumes with Mr. Clean.

Any site selling a product is not necessarily one I would trust when looking for research and information. Try searching for the actual study that showed GSE without the chemical additive has absolutely no anti-bacterial action. All the effects shown with its use are due to the chemical additive.
