    Anyone molting? & step up

It seems Humphrey is starting a molt. Is this a typical molting time? Is anyone else's birdie molting now?

And by the way - good news - Humphrey stepped up onto a perch!!!! My husband said 'step up' and he did! We made the biggest fuss over him. Hopefully this is the start of him doing it more!

Of my 4, only Kira is starting to molt. I've seen a few pin feathers around her face, and some extra feathers on the bottom of the cage, but she seems to be the only one doing it right now.

My IRN is almost done... I was getting a bit worried... never saw so many feathers come off at one time!

Ringnecks deffinately molt different than budgies! Can't wait to see what his tail feathers will be like. It is his first molt!

One thing I was pondering over was how cool it is the way they molt. Certain type/size feathers at a time. They are just a wonderful creation and a marvel!

We need to start a molting support group for our birdies - motto "You're not the only one losing feathers, sweetheart!" Humphrey is molting weirdly this time - all the underside 'fluff' is going first. Yesterday and today he lost a tail feather and two flights. Pin feathers all over the face too, and scratch, scratch, scratch. He's getting misted every day which he hates, but he's happier afterwards. You'd think he'd make the connection between being sprayed and being more comfy, but oh well!

He hasn't stepped up again, but we haven't tried much. He did put one foot on the perch, so I praised him for that.

    Tritak,
do you keep the feathers too. I keep almost all their feathers. My son says that it is morbid but they are so pretty I can't just throw them away.I too have quite a collection. :D

my eclectus is JUST starting unfortunatly..he has big feathers everywhere. My 3 parakeets are almost done...tahnk goodness. All over the floor was a blanket of little feathers. My sun conure has lots of little pin feathers and some of her feathers are dropping. :? lovely for all of them to give me their unwanted gifts all over the place!
