Vegetarianism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Today, Indian vegetarians, primarily lacto vegetarians, are estimated to make up more than 70% of the world's vegetarians. They make up 20–42% of the population in India, while less than 30% are regular meat-eaters. Surveys in the U.S. have found that roughly 1–2.8% of adults eat no meat (including poultry or fish).

Veganism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Various polls have reported vegans to be between 0.2% and 1.3% of the U.S. population, and between 0.25% and 0.4% of the UK population.

Veganism - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
    United States
A 2002 Time/CNN poll found that 4% of American adults consider themselves vegetarians, and 5% of vegetarians consider themselves vegans, which implies that 0.2% of American adults are vegans.

    Europe
In 2002, the UK Food Standards Agency carried out a National Diet and Nutrition Survey, which reported that 5% of respondents self-identified as vegetarian or vegan. Though 29% of that 5% said they avoided "all animal products", only 5% reported avoiding dairy products.

Human - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Humans are omnivorous, capable of consuming both plant and animal products

Bear - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
While the polar bear is mostly carnivorous and the giant panda feeds almost entirely on bamboo, the remaining six species are omnivorous, with largely varied diets including both plants and animals.

Waiting for the day that PETA attacks bears for eating meat!!!!

As it takes land to raise cattle, so does it take land to grow crops.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
PETA condemned the dumping as against their policy, and suspended one of the employees involved for 90 days. Police charged the two employees with 31 felony counts of animal cruelty and eight misdemeanor counts of illegal disposal of dead animals. In October, these charges were dropped, and replaced with 42 combined counts of animal cruelty, and 3 counts of "obtaining property under false pretense". In the trial, which began on January 22, 2007, both workers were acquitted of all charges, including animal cruelty charges, except a misdemeanor count for improper disposing of the euthanized animals. This misdemeanor littering conviction was later reversed by the North Carolina Court of Appeals.

And yes, I hate to admit the fact that they have done good!!!

Wow you did spend allot of time googling.
    The Internets never wrong :)

Penn & Teller are funny! I saw that one too.
They had some screwed up extremists.
I DO NOT AGREE WITH EVERYTHING PETA STANDS FOR.
    eg; Total animal liberation.
Peta get out there, and let people know what some animals go through to keep them warm in the winter, and to feed them on a daily basis, that never hurt anyone.
It's also the silent hero's that do good for the animals.
Like a homeless man I saw digging for bottles worth 5cents recycled, but every time he found food, he'd feed the pigeons.
I walked up and handed him $10 and said thankyou.

    I love animals.
And I love people who try to do something to make their lives better.
    How ever big or small.
Sure there's lots of rumors and all sorts of crap in between.

Uhmm original post, petsmart mills and filthy environment.
    Whats your opinions?
    lol.

Good evening everyone, I will begin by saying that this is my opinion and am not pointing at anyone specific. My statements are general and based on my own personal experiences.

I have been following this thread and attempting to stay out of it because of blood pressure issues but I couldn't. Lori is right about pet shops. The shops under cooperate can only do what they are told. If you have knowledgeable people running those shops it usually shows in how the animals are cared for at their location. I personally have seen mom and pop shops that would turn your stomach because of the filth. On the other hand I have also seen privately owned shops that were run by people that really cared for their animals and it showed. IMO, Judge each shop individually because there are good ones out there. I won't comment on PETA or ALF because I was raised that two wrongs do not make a right and I will leave it at that. As far as getting greedy/cruel people to change. We can't even stop ourselves from killing, Abusing, using, or destroying each other. Why would it be any different for the treatment of animals because most people view animals as lower beings that are to be used as seen fit. I was raised that all animals are valuable and deserve the dignity any living thing deserves, but with animal cruelty, and groups like ALF and Peta I am starting to believe that animals deserve better treatment then humans. This is why I prefer to work with, raise, and be around animals over people.

I will add the extremism on any level is wrong and can be very dangerous. IMO, The end never justifies the means it is just a way for violent people to tell themselves it is OK to do what ever then want or hurt whoever they want.

I may be an extremist, but i will never ever hurt an animal. That includes humans.
Oh, and on that subject of veganism... I just got back from the tattoo shop with my brand new vegan heart tattoo. It's so rad.

Odhinn, I disagree with most of what you said, but i respect you opinion.

And as someone mentioned before... petsmart????
What do you all think about Petsmart as a chain? Do they deserve our loyalty? Should we shop there at all?

Just a quick thought... instead of paying big bucks for toys, visit that DIY section and make your own stuff.

Andy I figured you would and I respect your opinion also but I do disagree with extremism. I was part of some groups in the past and most of the extreme members I met were scum trying to prove that their lives meant something or they were attempting to make their mark on the world at all costs. Be careful who you run with because the whole is judged by the few. Most people will leave you to the wolves if pressured.

I am not against what the pure form of these groups represents but am fully against what some members have turned them into. Inevitably human involvement in anything seems to taint the sole purpose of what is right. People can say what they want but it is human nature to be noticed for what you do and some people do not have the morals to stop themselves from doing anything for that gratification. A perfect example of this happens on internet forums every day in the form of controversial threads that get out of hand.

As far as Petsmart goes. I will never sell any of our chicks to them or buy animals from them except if I see intervention is needed. If they are the only choice I will get food/supplies from them because my pets welfare are my personal responsibility.

I still stand on the fact that humans are a lost cause and when it all comes crashing down I am headed to a cave in the Rockies with my family and enough Firepower to protect them from all the idiots of the world.

    In response

    Rus
Just drove 12 1/2 hours round trip to pick up the previously mentioned conures from another thread so I'm just going to hit a few points. I'm very tired and do not feel like playing a word ping-pong game.

No one wants more government imposed in their lives, but sometimes it is needed. For example...... your position or career of choice.

Also, let me add, I avoid all government intervention by keeping my little rescue private and personally funded. I pay for all the food, all the vet bills, the part time gal that comes in to help me 3 times a week, the cages, the toys, travel expenses, etc. I don't regret the choice I made to wake up at the wee hours every day. Nor do I regret cooking, cleaning, and forever having the vacuum at my side. It's for the babies in my care, and it's the right thing to do. Seeing my babies happy makes me glow inside, maybe that's what you are lacking... job satisfaction.

So, thats the answer to your question: What are you doing besides complaining on an internet forum?

You stated that you sleep well at nights, knowing you made a difference.. Cudo's to you... I always feel there is more I could have done and wish I could do more.

As I read your response, the one thing I looked for but did not see, was that you respected your fellow member's opinions whether you agreed or not. The closest thing I could find was you making a statement about how much more inner strength it took to risk the wrath, than to cow-towel.

As a moderator... isn't respecting a difference of opinion of one of the members one of the first things you should consider?

Government, PETA, USDA, breeders, petstores... there is no easy solution to any of this. We all just try to make a dent in something horrible by doing something good. No one expects you to lie, cow-towel, or go with the masses for approval.. but let me tell you doc.. you need a whole new bedside manner. By the way, your other thread was in very bad taste.
