How did you become involved with Birds?
My grandmother got me into birds, she bought me a blue budgie when i was 4. since then, we have had just about every type of bird, including various softbills. she also encouraged me to volunteer for the local zoos, which i did and i loved!! ive gotten to work with all kinds of exotic birds (and other animals too) from all over the world, its been very rewarding, educational and most of all, FUN.

What made you want to share you life with birds? Their beauty, intelligence, affectionate nature and their ability to lift me up when im down in the dumps and make my day bright again.

How long have you been an avian caretaker?
almost 19 years.

What species do you currently care for?
Several, including cockatiels, meyers parrots, red bellied parrots, senegals, moustached parakeets, alexandrines, caiques, patagonian conures, quakers, plum headed parakeets, a zebra finch, an eclectus, and a trumpeter hornbill.

What do you love most about your birds?
My pet birds are wonderful, very loving and very funny, they are very well behaved, even with strangers and while they are out in public. With my breeders, i have several that love human attention, interacting with them is fun even if we have a hands off relationship.

Do you have a favourite bird book and why? Not really, dont read many books, i do most of my reading in magazines and on the net.

Which bird magazines do you buy/subscribe to?

I will read just about any bird or dog magazine out there.

Do you belong to any bird clubs? No but we spend plenty of time at the local bird shop, if that counts. Its like a club in there where we know several people and they bring along their birds to visit with everyone, along with all the wonderful staff.

Do you have a special story of a feathered one you would like to share?
We have alot of those. I just love coming home and greeting everyone, they are always so happy to see me come home, they run to the fronts of their cages and scream their feathery butts off and the pets just cant wait to come out of their cages for playtime.

What is the best piece of advice you can offer new parronts that you have learned through trial and error?
Find a great birdie "mentor" and a trusty vet and stay loyal to them. Chit chat with them, learn from them, and just have fun with them. In your most desparate times of need, they will be the ones to help you through the hard times. be appreciative of your fids and just have fun with them, they are your best friends too. dont dwell on their "bad" quirks, concentrate on the good ones and just learn to have fun in this life.

Care to share who else shares your life? Pets/Family?
Its just me and my husband, all our birds, a siberian husky, 4 red eared slider turtles, 5 chameleons, and 2 boa constrictors.

Any closing thoughts?
i dont think so...
