How did you become involved with Birds?
My ex boyfriend brought home Paco, a Sun Conure. He was in a home that wasn't very friendly to him and I didn't know a thing about birds. I had to phone a friend and ask a ton of questions. And before I knew it, I was in love with a bright little feather duster. What made you want to share you life with birds? Well as I mentioned above, I got Paco out of the blue and after losing him, I was so upset. I wanted another Sun, but couldn't find one at the time I was looking, but I found Scarley, my IRN that I so love, and I haven't regretted it for a moment, though she can be some what of a hand full but she's my little ray of sunshine! How long have you been an avian caretaker? I'm still new to this. Since 2003...I learn something new EVERY DAY, and I owe a great deal of my knowledge to you guys here on BB! What species do you currently care for? 2 ringnecks, Scarley who is 6 yrs old and Ringo about 15 months, and 1 green cheek conure, Cricket who is 3 months old. What do you love most about your birds? Their never ending love! Their personalities are a close 2nd. But when they are wanting to be loved, there is nothing sweeter to me than that moment. Do you have a favourite bird book and why? Does "Healthy Bird Cookbook" count? LOL But no, I haven't read any bird novels, or any type of literature on birds other than things here on BB or other websites. Which bird magazines do you buy/subscribe to? Birdtalk is the only one I subscribe to. Do you belong to any bird clubs? No I don't. Not sure if there are any in my area really. Do you have a special story of a feathered one you would like to share? OH I think all of birdboard has heard my stories of my babies. It's been a week since I have seen my babies (remember I was with Mabird this past week) and I can't wait to get my hands on my babies. But no, I can't think of any that stick outs, I pretty much share my stories with my extended family here on Bird Board. But I will share this, while on vacation with MaBird, I bought so many bird toys that I had to pack them up and mail them to myself! What is the best piece of advice you can offer new parronts that you have learned through trial and error?PATIENCE! AND LOTS OF IT! Without that, I don't think I would have stood by and continued to be Scarley's mom. Glad I did! Care to share who else shares your life? Pets/Family? My doxie Scarlet 3 cats, Khaska, Darkness and Peanut. Any closing thoughts? "Never give up on your feathered friends. They are as loyal as any dog if not more so. I was told once by my friend who helped with Paco, If you want to know what real love is, get a bird. I never knew what I was missing out on til I got my Paco! "
