How did you become involved with Birds?

I have had a fascination with birds ever since I was young. Several years ago my wife and I decided we wanted a family interactive pet. We decided a cockatiel would be perfect. So the quest began. While in a bird supply store on my way to look a a tiel I walked past a cage and the proprietor said "I think that one likes you" and pointed at a bird trying very hard to get as close to me as possible in that cage. Well, we now know her as Zoey.

What made you want to share you life with birds?

Their beauty. Intelligence. Personality. And I just love 'em!!!

How long have you been an avian caretaker?

about 4 years, I'm still a youngin'.

What species do you currently care for?

a yellow belly Senegal female, a male Peachface Lovebird, a female Aru Red Sided Eclectus and a male Pacific Parrotlet.

What do you love most about your birds?

Their character and personalities. They never stop surprising me.

Do you have a favorite bird book and why?

Parrots for Dummies. It's simple and to the point.

Which bird magazines do you buy/subscribe to?

none at this time. I end up just looking at the pictures anyway.

Do you belong to any bird clubs?

no I don't, and I haven't found one here either.

Do you have a special story of a feathered one you would like to share?

The story is still in motion. The love I feel for my birds is so awesome. It truly is. The only thing beyond is how Kelly called Zoey my "birdy Prozac" as her coming into my home lifted me up out of a depression I didn't even know I was in!

What is the best piece of advice you can offer new parronts that you have learned through trial and error?
Do your homework!!! Know what you are getting into with a bird before you get one! I had no clue when I started. The info was there I just didn't look for it. Things like they are a life time pet. Two out of four of my birds may very well out live me! Know what they will want in their lifes as well as need.

Care to share who else shares your life? Pets/Family?

Kelly, my wonderful wife, her youngest son Nathanial and I also have a 40 gallon reef tank.

Any closing thoughts?

My birds are a very important part of my life. They fill me with so much joy that I hope that I come close to matching it for them.
