Question Quartine Help

I have a question. I have quartine all my birds before introducing them to the others. Even if they were all 100% healthy. My question is, I know how Caiques are prone to the Polyuma Viruse. None of my birds have it, they are all above the baby stages. I know some adult birds can get it, too. My birds are all healthy. They all been vet checked two weeks ago, as I am bringing home a new baby. My Caique has both shots and is also healthy. Why can't I put him in the Bird Room the same day he comes home? My breeder said that I can just do that. She said it won't hurt since all my birds are healthy. What do you all think? I don't have another room to quartine him in. The house is a mess, as we are remodeling it. And, if he can stay in the Bird Room, before he comes home should I wipe down the walls, windows, etc.....? I do these things anyways, but if I need to do it again, I will, for him I will. Thank you for your answers.

You should still quarantine. Even if your bird appears healthy, that is no guarantee. There could be some sort of bacteria that the new bird has, and by putting them in the same room directly, you expose your other birds.

It is my opinion you cannot say your bird is 100% healthy without total testing, including blood tests, cultures, complete blood counts, fecal smears, disease testing, etc. And even if your bird has had all of those tests and has passed, it still is not worth the risk to your other birds.

You MUST quarantine. You have no idea what either your birds or the new baby may be harboring. Trust me, baby birds have virtually no immunities. Its simply more cost effective if nothing else to keep all of them healthy and allow time for whatever bacteria or other junk to develop before you introduce them to each other. What's the big hurry, anyway. You'll have them for years.

So I should then. Now I need to make room some where in the house. Golly, I don't want anything like that to happen to him nore my other birds. Thank you!
