Bird seed question

If a bird eats some pellets should the seed you feed them not be fortified or is fortified ok. A bird store I go to told me if they eat any pellets at all feeding fortified seed and treats with it is going overboard on vitamins. Both my birds eat pellets but not only pellets but now I'm wondering if there getting to many vitamins with pellets, seed, and avi cakes. Also veggies.

Technically, you were given correct information. The pellets should provide all of the vitamins your bird requires. Unfortified seed is generally recommended. You don't want your bird loading up on seed in the first place.Think of seed as a treat and not a meal.

Be sure to incorporate lots of fresh veggies and fruits as well into its diet.

I agree here with Outlaw, though would also like to mention that there is no "best" seed to feed, however there is a worse type of seed to feed... Generally speaking, it's best to stay away from dyed foods (seeds, even some pellets, colored mineral or cuttlebone blocks, and dried fruits that may have been dyed). It's also a good idea to stay away from wild bird seed, and some of those fortified diets. Some of the fortified diets have dried fruits and veggies in them, but there is no guarantee that the birds will actually eat them, and some people think they are the 'best seed to feed' because they are more expensive than the others, but then tend to end up wasting their money...
