IMO & IME breeding/handfeeding any kind of bird is pretty much the same, generally speaking. Good diet, proper lighting, stress free location of breeding cage, removal of any additional birds in their cage, proper humidity, cleanliness and all the usual good bird keeping procedures. IMO pulling the babies from the parents about 10 days old makes the handfeeding process go much easier than pulling when they are older.
Get a hold of some species specific books and I suggest purchasing a book called Handfeeding & Nursery Management from Avian Publications.com or elsewhere ASAP (before you actually need it & study it good in advance) . Handfeeding lovebirds IMO & IME is not much different at all from feeding other species but I crop feed so regarding spoon feeding or syringe feeding into the side of the mouth I can't really comment on as I don't have much experience with that. That is too time consuming for me and IME they come out just as tame after crop feeding, if that is done correctly. Remember to provide lots of calcium to the parents and egg food during breeding times and give them a rest after every two or three clutches, preferrably after every two clutches. Keeping them outside is also best IMO. |
