Needing help to know the sex of my Cocatiel
My husband last week bought me a Cockatiel. He bought it from a couple at a flea market that say they raise birds. My husband didn't ask the sex of the bird. It does the "wolve whisle" and has pick up the sound we make like a kissing sound, plus saying "hello" and trying to say my husband's name. It will not let us touch "him" or "her." Can someone please help me figure the sex of the bird? It looks like the gray and white Cockatiel on the opening page of this site.

Get "it's a boy" cigars!
Juvenile cockatiels look like hens till after their first molt. After that,
hens have bars across their tale feathers, cocks have solid colored tail feathers. Also, very few females are good talkers. Brightly colored cheek patches also indicate males, but not always. I have a cinnamon pied with bright orange cheeks.SHE has just laid her second clutch.Enjoy your new love ! Glendappp |

Here is an image of my cockatiel. I was questioned about her sex because of her face. Her wings are completely clear, as well as all but two of her tail feathers. The only visual signs of her being a female are the two tail feathers that actually have markings on them (stripes), and the pearls (though there are some very few males that DO indeed keep their pearls...). I know in fact that she is a female for one, the breeders had said so (never talked to them), she displays female behaviors, and for the fact that she has layed 3 eggs. She is simply known as a cinnamen-pearl-pied cockatiel (though I prefer recessive silver over cinnamen.... it sounds more extravaggant! lol
![]() I would say for you that you most likely indeed have a male!
