Aviary cleaning

Can someone tell me what the best thing to use for disinfecting our Bird house. We have about 40 cockatiels, 16 lovebirds, parakeets and 2 conures. Just got started and want to do and use the best thing for the safety of the birds. Thanks Java ( Pat)

You have many options. You can use a mixture of 1 cup Clorox bleach to 1 gallon hot water. Or, you may prefer to clean with vinegar and hot water. I don't care for either of these because the smell makes me nauseaus. You can use one capful of Grapefruit Seed Extract to a gallon of hot water and that works very well, with no scent whatsoever.

Once a month you need to up the ante. I use Aviclean and water mixed per instructions. Nolvasin is another great disinfectant.

If you have a known bacterial infection, then you must really be vigilant. I keep a container of Virkon S here and mix as per instructions on package. I always use this after I board any birds here.
