Hmm. Not sure at what age parrotlets naturally wean. It does sound odd to me. If you got the bird from a breeder, I suggest a phone call to discuss the possibilities. If you got the bird from a petstore, I suggest you call your vet and let him/her decide if an office visit is advised. Good luck.

I second the "call the vet", i would look for an avian vet in your area.

Nancy is right. Call the breeder or the store as they will know the bird best.
If you can't get help there then call an avian vet's office for info or help. I would do this right away.

Before you call the vet gather information that may help the vet make a phone diagnosis. Has your bird lost any weight, if so how much. Is the bird eating and drinking, what foods and how much. Is he fluffing feathers up? How many feet is he standing on while resting? What does the birds poop look like, normal, watery, lots of white, firm, color, shape, size, etc. Check his crop to make sure it is emptying. Does the bird have any nasal discharge? All these things will help the vet determine if the bird needs a visit. Even if the vet says wait and see, watch the bird with a close eye. Weigh first thing every morning after the first poop.

Gather the information and make the call..........

Hi,

You should not be seeing any black poop, it should be green and tubular with a litte white mixed in. The crop is below his throat, it normally sticks out some when full of food. If food does not get past the crop it becomes impacted (blocked). Fluffing the feathers is another sign of illness, especially if done for and extended period of time. A gram scale is a very handy tool, you can weigh your bird every week or every day if you feel it is sick, chart the weight to see if there is a loss.

Follow this link to Poopology, read and see what you think.
http://www.aviculture.org/Birds/id51.htm

We all were in your position with a "first" bird at one time.

If you have black poop I would take the bird to the vet ASAP. If the poop is black and you have not been feedng blue berries or the like there may be a problem. What are you feeding?
