parakeet not eating

Hello...I found a parakeet in a tree in NYC yesterday...got him home and set up in a cage with seed, fruit, misc. perches and toys...he seems to have clipped wings, he's not paniced by people...or hands, though not hand trained ...is alert and active...mostly just sitting on his perch. The big problem is that he has not eaten...only literally a couple of seeds...He pooped last night and it looked normal...white and green...I've kept zebra finches, and other rescue birds, never parakeets. Is he just freaked out? I've tried millet, seed, egg, fruit, and he eats nothing...should I back off or is there something else I should try? We're talking to him and he seems to sort of like it I think, but I don't know about this not eating thing....any advice will help...Thank you

Hi,
He is obviously a bird that up until recently has been living with someone else in what was probably a safe environment. He hs been thrust into the world and is now in a completely new environment. He will be eating as soon as he feels safe.
What you are offering as food is fine.

Thank you Bill...this morning the parakeet started to eat some seeds and has eaten a bit throughout the day...so I guess he'll let us know what he wants...
