Do any of your amazons do this?

I recently had a cockatiel die on me so I've been especially watchful (but mainly worrysome) of my amazon. Sometimes my MRH will puff himself up as much as he can (he'll get pretty big), contract his pupils (as he always does when he talks or makes noises), gently nibble on my finger then bob his head up and down. It is extremely funny to observe and was wondering if anybody else has had their bird purposely puff up. If they do, are they wanting anything in particular? My bird normally bobs his head to be comical but I was just wondering if anyone else has had the chance to see their bird perform in such a way.

It sounds to me like he is regurgitating for you...it is a sign of affection.

That is correct. Birds will try to feed the ones they love stuff they have in their crop. Lucky you!

Yep! Petey McSweet does that for me. Bob does that for me--and for his reflection in the mirror--and for Arthur. Arthur does it for Bob, and once for me. Eddie does it for my spouse.

Fair warning--if anything actually comes up and it ends up on your palm or other body part, it stinks like nobody's business! LOL! I about upchucked myself the first time Bob actually brought up his "offering" for me. Try to be polite to your bird, and tell him "thank you" :-).

My severe macaw does this; it's always affectionate.. he will fluff up, bob his head up and down, or move quickly side to side, and usually make "croaking" noises. That's his standard "contentment" noise.
