bathing for a parakeet?!

Hi I have a 3 1/2 month boy parakeet Petie. So I herd that you always need to give youir birds a bath, but how do you give a 3 1/2 old parakeet a bath? Is it to early?

What you really need to give the bird is the OPPORTUNITY to take a bath. Different birds have different preferences, and some don't like ANYTHING in the beginning, so it can be tricky finding out what works best for your bird. Some birds like to wallow in a container of water, and they might accept one kind of container but not another. The water should be fairly shallow, not more than enough to just touch the bird's belly.

Some birds like to play under a dripping faucet or to take a shower with their owner using a shower perch. Others like a mist bath from a spray bottle - aim the spray above the bird so that it falls down on them like rain. The water should be room temperature, not too hot and not too cold, although I've heard of birds that like cold baths.

My Tiels love the mist/spray bottle shower. They fluff up to get the water into the feathers and shake it off and thoroughly enjoy themselves!
