Peeling Beak

My MRH's beak has peeled quite a bit. Is the beak peeling due to vitamin deficiency or something else? I purchased a bottle of supplement drops (I haven't used them on him yet) Do any of you recommend using them in general? His diet is predominately seeds and peanuts.
(We go to the vet Tuesday so I'll be sure to mention these to her as well, just wanted your experienced opinions).

I attached two pictures of him to assess the severity of the problem.

It sounds like a vitamin deficiency or fatty liver disease. you can't have a bird's diet based primarily on nuts and seeds - this will have bad physical consequences. A flaky beak is probably the least of your worries.

a vet visit is definitely in order here.

I don't have any Redheads, but I do have a YNA. As parrots age, their beaks and legs get rougher looking. Its perfectly normal. I don't think your bird's beak looks bad. However, as I stated, I don't have a Redhead. How old is your zon?

However, that's a VERY poor diet for any parrot, much less an Amazon. They tend to have fatty liver issues more often than most parrots and usually carry too much weight, leading to arthritis, gout and other problems.

If you can provide a good fresh diet of vegetables, beans, fruits, nuts, pasta, rice and some protein, I would suggest you start that conversion as soon as possible. Check out the recipe section and try Liss's Kitchen Sink. This pretty much hits everything you bird wants and needs. And, there is always a good quality pellet as an option, though I don't feed them. Harrisons and Scenic are especially good.

He does occasionally get fruit and vegetables and he does get exercise just about everyday. He's about 20 years old....is the "damage" reversible?

Often it is reversible. Frankly, if he's been on that diet for that long, he NEEDS to see a vet to establish baselines. He may have liver problems than can be corrected. However, I must say his feathers look pretty good.
