Getting Green Cheek to eat fruit.

Only had my bird about 2-3 weeks now, she eats pellets, has some treats that are mostly seeds, millet, etc. I bought a nice mix of papaya, pineapple, shredded coconut, almonds, peanuts....but she could care less.

I tried to get her interested in peas and corn and scrambled eggs, which my tiel absoultely love, but she's not interested in them either.

Any idea how to get her interested in these?

Stewie my sun conure loves most kinds of fruit (especially if it's orange - the color). He only very recently tried a couple of new things like scrambled eggs. I find with him that it helps to eat the food in front of him and then offer bits of it to him with my fingers. Sometimes it takes a long time, so it takes lots of persistence. Good luck.

Try having her take treats from your hand often. Then she may associate food in your hand as a treat and be more willing to try new things from your hand.

I'm going to try the kabob. I can't get her to eat from my hand...when I bring a piece of food toward her she acts scared. I managed to get close today, but she wouldn't taste it. I pretended to eat some, but she walked away.

I'll keep trying, she's still getting used to the place.

The way I got Rigel to eat veggies was to make him a salad and then make myself a larger version of the same salad. I ate it next to his cage and made *mmm yum yum* sounds until he tried a little bite and the lots of praise. He never had a problem eating fruit though, mostly just trying to keep him from over-eating fruit :)

Maybe wait to introduce fruit until she's comfortable with her new home. It might just be too much "new" all at once?

Ziggy will never eat from our hands, she prefers to get it when "she" wants it. She loves grapes, but they have to be cut up and only red grapes, doesn't care for the green. She'll eat apples, some greens and peanut shells but not the actual nut.
Funny how eating in front of them makes them want some of the same, but that works too!

My lovebird is a veggie eater, and my gcc prefers fruit.

You can try cutting the fruits and veggies into tiny bits. Sometimes big chunks are scary! Then maybe mix a tiny bit of seed in with it.

That's the way my guys like them

how long have you had your little one? sometimes it takes a little for them to get used to surroundings, and then new food and so forth....

apple is always a good place to start.... thin slices that you can also offer in the cage (mounted between the cage bars)

I've had him/her (dna test pending) for about 3 weeks. I will grind the chunks in the food processor and mix it with some of the pellet crumbs and put it in her food dish. If that's a success, I'll gradually enlarge the size of the fruit pieces. Haven't had time to try the kabobs yet, but will do that in two weeks (I'm "on call" next week, no time for anything!).
Thanks all!
