Parakeet leg

My pet parakeet hurt its leg the other day pretty bad. It cant really walk on it and just hangs there. It still tries to get on the perch and walk but it cant really. I think it might be fractured or broken. Unfortunetley there are no vets that specialize in birds in my area. Is there anything i can do to help repair its leg, like a cast of some sort i can make?

He really needs to see a vet. Find one that will consult with an avian vet, or drive to one. Otherwise he may end up having major problems with the leg later on. Have you tried the avain vet look up?? Find your local Avian Veterinarian

You can also post your city/state and see if anyone here knows of a good vet that can work with birds.

Nope, you will have to take it to a vet. You don't want to make things worse. Just take it to a normal vet and they may have some numbers or be able to help it until you can see one. They might be able to give it some pain killers until you are able to see an avian vet.

i agree with previous answers... there's really nothing we could recommend for you to do as we're not vets... and for a successful healing, it's essential that the vet can actually see the birdies leg...

... please find an avian vet if possible (where are you located - even for outside of the US there are websites listing avian vets)

Take away the high perches and put a towel (covered with paper towels) at the bottom of the cage in case he falls. You might put very warm compresses on the leg (using a piece of a wet washcloth) several times a day to keep circulation going. (Hold him and put the compress around his leg and hold it there until it cools down, then reheat the cloth and do it again.)

But you must get him to a vet, any vet.
