The vets in my area have on calls after hours, but not all the vets who are oncall do birds and so they won't even take your call they just give you the freaking run around. Well when my vet was online one time, I wrote down all her numbers and should something bad happen, I'm not above calling her at home day or night. I'm also going to bring it up to her next time I see her, it's a problem that needs to be fixed.

Emergency Avian Vet
Unfortunately, our closest avian vet is 140 miles away. They do take emergency calls but I'd still have to travel with a sick bird for 140 miles. We do have a few veterinarians in town who treat birds but they are not certified avian vets.
This is an unfortunate situation. |
