another suggestion: If you travel with your birds have phone numbers for the local AV and emergency clinics for where you are visiting. When my girl Budgie started having seizures while I was in Toledo, yeah I had my AV (who has 24 emergency clinic hours) on speed dial, but it was doing me little good in Toledo. My parents have an AV, but they were closed and they referred us to the Emergency Clinic. I was somewhat lucky that my parents have birds too.

That's a great idea! I don't have an Avian vet or an emergency one for that matter.

The vets in my area have on calls after hours, but not all the vets who are oncall do birds and so they won't even take your call they just give you the freaking run around. Well when my vet was online one time, I wrote down all her numbers and should something bad happen, I'm not above calling her at home day or night. I'm also going to bring it up to her next time I see her, it's a problem that needs to be fixed.

Emergency Avian Vet

Unfortunately, our closest avian vet is 140 miles away. They do take emergency calls but I'd still have to travel with a sick bird for 140 miles. We do have a few veterinarians in town who treat birds but they are not certified avian vets.

This is an unfortunate situation.

I, of course, have emergency numbers. But in this site I have found some good information:
