My grey is not banded and i was wondering if this is important. Are the bands used only for identification purposes and to tell if they were imported?

I like to get birds that are banded because it gives you certain verifiable information that you may not be able to get from an unbanded one.I, like Heather, have only half of my birds that currently wear a band. Some vets routinely remove them and some breeders simply don't band in the first place.

Frankly, I'd like to see a universal banding law that would make it mandatory for birds offered for sale to the public. The band would include tracking numbers, year of birth and whether or not a purebred bird. That way, we could preserve the species more easily by knowing which birds were hybrids, but looked like purebreds. In fact, I'd made the color of the hybrids bands bright, perhaps orange.
