Quaker bites me with jacket on??

We adopted a three year old Quaker about two months ago. He has bonded with me since I am home the most and pay attention to him. He is out mostly when I am home. I can handle him to the point that I can pick him up like a can of pop and carry him around. However when I put my brown winter jacket on to go out and then I go to put him in his cage he bites! He did this a couple of times now including the very first time I did it. This is a plain jacket without a hood etc and he knows it is me. Of course I now put him in his cage before I put on my jacket. I was wondering if anyone has a clue to his behaviour. Is he afraid of the jacket or maybe he knows it means I am leaving and he is mad??

We have two tiels also who do not exhibit any such behaviour but the Quaker is a much more complex bird. He gets along with the tiels and they eat all togther on the table somtimes and they all will hang out on the tiels' cage. Moses [Quaker] is pretty aggressive to the other family members though he is getting better. He will often start biting my clothing when they come near while making noises and lets them know with his beak that he does not want to go with them. He will step up to them when he is on the floor. Sometimes he will go with another family member or even fly over to them but then he has the nasy habit of suddenly biting their face. We love him anyhow and my wife is trying to spend more time with him. He was very attached to his previous owner and I don't know how long it wil take him to accept our family more and feel more at home.

My bird gets mad when I leave or put her to bed (even if she's the one originally asking to be back to her cage)! She also bites AT my jacket (loves the buttons, zippers) but that sounds different from your little guy.

With regards to biting, I find that if I don't let myself get upset from the bite, then it stops quickly.

I ask "why did you bite me? No biting". Said looking at her, but not overly forceful or agressive. The I start talkign to her nicely and she seems to respond pretty quickly with no biting and back to nice bindy! It works for me!

Its not the jacket, its the ASSOCIATION of your GOING that's making him angry. Just when he was having a good time, you've decided playtime is over, and he has to go back inside.

I think that it could be a combination of the two, though more likely that he is afraid of the jacket... My conure dislikes it when I where hats though otherwise she has no problem if I wear anything else (even if it is new). Some birds are scared of new items... You could try leaving the jacket in an area where it can be seen from Moses cage...

I've heard of two budgies that got frightened when their owner would put their hair up or mess around with their hair so that it was no longer down. This is usually more notable in the medium to larger birds though some birds can be afraid of new things, even toys...

There was even cases of birds plucking because something in their environment changed and they dissaproved of it, so I'm guessing this might be similar...
