My female whiteface cinnamon pearl cockatiel was hatched on October 24th 2004 and she is still with her breeder since she is down to two handfeedings a day plus pellets, bean cuisine, etc., but I was just wondering how long weaning usually takes with a cockatiel?
I am looking so forward to taking my baby girl home, yet I know that her being fully weaned is VERY important! I guess that I am simply looking for a ball park time frame so that I can at least have an approximate date to look forward to...my breeder is slow to get me this info due to this busy holiday season...yet I know I can count on you experts out there to throw some info my way :icon_smil Thanks in advance

I believe the normal weaning range is 8-12 weeks... The longer usually the better as if they are weaned too early (usually 8 weeks or before) they usually revert back to wanting to be handfed with HFF, and if the owners don't know what to do then the chicks die... So I'd say you have a good week or two atleast before the baby weans, and if the breeder keeps the chick for 1-2 weeks after weaning is done, then you may not get your baby for another 3-4 weeks, which probably would be best!
Good luck on your baby!
