Majj he looks like a king parrot (JJ that is) - what are they like as pets? Do they talk? One of my brothers owns an acreage and they fly around his place wild (we get the odd one here now and then also). He said they appeared to be very quiet for wild birds.

JJ is a king parrot. From my understanding they tend to be quieter than their conure counterparts and not as cuddly. I'll let Maj tell ya though all about how JJ was like (or even Jam).

Yes JJ was a King parrot we had him from 10 weeks old he was hand reared and the most adorable kind bird ..They are non agressive average talkers and are not touching birds BUT they love people and want to be on or with you at all times ..As a baby we could cuddle and pet JJ , just as a mother bird would have contact but as he got older he was uncomfortable with being touched , I learned Kings do not preen each other in the wild either so I gather this is part of their make up..JJ was always into everything , he was my bird he chose to love me the best BUT he loved everyone and he would toss me aside for visitors he loved to show off and amuse company ..the doorbell wouuld ring he would fly off to greet whoever it was ..We had a special double entry screen door made so friends could come into one section and close the door behind them before we opened the door so making it safe to have JJ greet our friends and family...He would sit on their shoulder and refuse to move or come to me ...Say Hello!!! "What are you doing ??" "Pretty boy" and of course everyone would be laughing he would be head bobbing and dancing showing off , he would laugh (my laugh) and the more we laughed the sillier he acted ...
I miss him so...Christmas was very quite with out our Big red chook..
Kings don`t do well if kept in a small cage , we had a BIG patio type cage he used just for sleeping during the day he was free in the bird room and came with me all around the house while I was working...
JJ got metal poisoning spent a long time in hospital , on meds but developed a secondry Upper Resp. infection and was too week after 3 months of treatment (Sinus flushes, hospital stays for weeks on end , medication after medication , injections , nebulizer treatments) he was so very very weak and sick we couldn`t keep puting him through treatment when he was getting worse all the time he fought so hard to stay with us and we did everything possible to try to keep him , but we had to end his pain and emotionally its the worse thing I have ever been through , I can`t think of JJ without crying still and its been 4 months now the sadness will always be with me , people say it will get better but I don`t think it will ever go I just hide it , tucked into a corner of my heart ...
