Bruised eye...

I was wondering if you guys have some suggestions to help with Valo's little bruise on his eye.... (he has a shiner )

Yesterday morning, Mr. Stinkefuss thought he was a little smartie and flew over to Pita's cage... well, Pita wasn't thrilled about that idea, and did let him know... though I was quick to grab Valo, Pita must have gotten him on the eye.... Valo shut his eye a little more than usual, and I could tell it was bugging him a bit... I checked on him yesterday at noon, and the eye seemed fine - a little red, but he kept it open... it seemed the same in the evening...

Well, it's still fine... but we have a nice redish/blueish/purplish bruise around the eye... he still keeps it open and all, but it's a tiny bit runny, and you can see the bruise on the white skin around his eye when he closes it...

I was planning on getting some chamomile tea tonight, and take some soaked, cooled tea bags and place them on his little eye to calm it.... (that's what my mom did with us when we had bruises, and I always brought home plenty)... sounds like a good idea?

I was wondering if you had any other suggestions - so far he's behaving all normal and the eye is open and clear, so I don't think it's necessary to take him to the vet (correct me if I'm wrong)... however, if it worsens slightly instead of getting better, I will take him...

Poor Valo..tries to be a good host and ends up with a bruised eye for his troubles.

I'd be watching the eye pretty close of any color change..the would be a sure sign to me that all is not well and a quick visit to the AV is needed. You might want to call your vet just to see what they say.

Boy you've got your hands full..Gayla & Pita, and now Valo.
Sydney sends him "get better" chirps.

Let us know how he's doing.

Noel once bruised her eye real well... and there was a bit of blood too. I called the vets to see if he had any recommendations, but he said to just watch her and if anything changed to bring her in... otherwise I had nothing to worry about.

thanks for asking... it was more swollen and red yesterday morning, and he had a hard time opening it. so i called the vet and scheduled an appointment for today... well, it got a lot better yesterday, and today morning you can hardly see anything.... called the vet and cancelled, and gave my baby extra snuggles....
