Question new bird owner needing help

Hello my name is Ann.I have had my parakeets babyblue and av for about 3 months now.Av is the male bird I am having trouble with. When I got him he was as loveable as could be , then one day out of no where he started biting me and I mean biting! He has drawn blood from me on more then one acation.I do not know how to break him of thhis so I can hold him and interact with him.My boyfriend can hold him but AV still bites even him but where his hands are ruffer from work AV dose not draw blood. What can I do about this ? If anyone could help it would be great. Also when AV bites he dose not just bite and let go he holds on for quiet awhile till he is ready to let go.I just do not understand why he is doing this. Some info on Av is that he is a pure white parakeet with pink eyes.I got him from Petco about 3 months ago he has been biting for about 1 1/2 months now.

Thank you for any help anyone can give
Ann

I wish I could help Ann, but I'm pretty new at bird ownership also. Maybe he's jealous of you and doesn't want you near the other bird. Just a guess. Do you have them caged together?
The members in here are pretty good and know their stuff. Give it a day and I'm sure you'll get lots of responses.
Good luck.
Lara

I assume that you house both birds together. That is why you are having problems. Your little bird no longer needs to interact with you and has chosen the other bird as his playmate.

You can seperate them and interact with them on a regular basis and probably have your pet back. Whether or not that's a good deal for him remains to be seen. Most animals will choose their own kind if given the chance to choose between humans and their own species.

OUTLAW thank you for you insight.I have another question though if AV is acting this way then why is the female Babyblue not acting in the same way?She has keeped her love of being held so fare. This biting issue with AV started before we got Babyblue. Is there anything else I could do stop his biting besides putting them in 2 different cages ?
Thank you Ann

Hi !! Well unless you are not spending much time with your birds I don`t believe housing them together would cause this , its only if you neglect them they will ignore you and want only each other ..I have my two in the same cage and we spend time with them daily they both remain close to us and still love and snuggle each other....maybe you bird is just going through a bad moult or is in a hormonal mode...are they male/female or male male or do you not know..........
