Hi Jo,
In addition to blue quakers, we also breed blue masked lovebirds. We use two types of brooders, one is home made and the other is a Brinsea TLC-4. The homemade one is a plastic reptile tank. Put a heating pad under it on the outside set on the lowest temperature. Make sure the heating pad only covers about 2/3 of the tank so that the babies can move away from the heat source if they want. Put a piece of dry deck in the bottom or put pine shavings with a piece of white paper towel on top. I keep the temp at 85 degrees F and humidity at 50%. Petsmart sells a combo thermometer/humidity measure that is very inexpensive that you can stick on the inside wall. Put the top on the tank and cover with a bath towel. This will work fine. We use the Brinsea for transporting as it can plug in the car and go with us in our camper and other trips.
Temperature is critical as is humidity. So please keep those babies warm and hydrated.
Best regards,
Quakermaker
