birdy birthcontroll

Hello. I was wondering if any one has put thier bird on the birthcontroll shot? What was your experiance with the shot? I have a cockatiel pair that won't stop. I am a breeder but she has had her limit and really needs a break. She will lay on the cage bottom with no box and doesn't care. I tried seperating the pair but they both get depressed and screeched alot and pace the cage and won't eat. I tried pairing them up with same sex cockatiels to keep them company and geet their breaks but they rejected the others and tried to pull feathers out. So I put them back together and in 5 minutes they were mating. Geesh. So she needs to stop and I guess I should try the shot.

I don't raise cockateils, but my parrotlets are very prolific. When I need to force them to take a break I put them into a divided cage. They can still interact and preen through the divider, but are unable to mate through the divider.

What are the risks from the shot? Have you spoken with your vet about it? I was not aware that there was a shot available for birds.

I personally am kind of a natural nature type guy and don't really believe in "birth control" shots or pills etc.......for birds or even for humans. Shame though that we do need them for humans especially, as otherwise this world would just become too over-populated with "dummies" IMO as children seem to take after their parents for the most part IMO & IME.......I hope no-one is offended by my comments.

I have heard about those shots for birds before but I would never use them as there are other ways to accomplish the same goal, natural ways, with no side effects that I know of.

I would do what Jill does rather than use a shot.....JMHO...

I have a friend who tried to calm down a hormonal Harlequin with the shots. It didn't work. What did work, however, was placing him in the home of an older gentleman with no other pets. Once the object of his affection was gone, he settled right down. Of course, this was a DNAd male. I'm not sure it would keep an egg laying hen under control.

birdy birthcontroll

Hello. Thanks. I like the natural also but was researching as a last resort. They are in a divided cage and seem to be doing ok now but I wonder if she will still lay. I am hoping not. She really needs her rest.
