blue crown conure Talking

:( Someone gave me a blue crown conure. I have had him for 5 days now. He is three years old. She says he can talk but I never hear him. I read tha they are very playful but he is not. Most of the time he sit puffed up on his perch. I bought new toys for him and exchanged them for the old ones but that did not work. He will let me feed him and now he will get on my finger without running around the cage. Is there something that I can do to make hem happy. and want to talk and play? I did teach him how to wave. But I just wand him more active.

Has he had a vet check to make sure he is healthy? If he is not acting normally then he might need to get a quit checkup...

However, it sounds like he is still adjusting to his new home and may take some time longer till he is acting normal like he was in his previous home. Good luck with him!!!

I agree totally with Monica. He is still adjusting too his new enviroment - you have only had him 5 days - it takes them a while to get used to their new routine. Before you know it he will be talking up a storm and acting himself..............you have to be patient........................it will pay off in the end! In the meantime, don't push him to hard - give him time to adjust. Good luck and let us know how he is doing!

Five days is NOTHING. Birds don't like change and his whole world has been changed. You need at least a few weeks for him to settle in. The fact that he is perching on your finger is a great sign - means he wants to be friends. If he is healthy, the fact that he is sitting in one place probably means he's nervous.Patience is the key. Don't worry, I bet he'll come around.

Good luck, and let us know.

HI

I have a Blue Crown also. I'veonly had him for a few months now but I know with my bird ,the talking is a matter of trust for him. I am the only one he talks to and when I talk to him he won't shut up.LOL, which of course I love but he won'ttalk to anyone else especially my husband who grabbed him with a towel when we first got him. The things I have done that have really helped me because I had a problem with biting when I first got him are food and music. These are the 2 things that my bird just loves!!! First I fed him all the time and mine loves fruits (all kinds) then when he seemed more comfortable I started turning the radio on and singing to him and he loves it. I usually bring him in the kitchen with me when I do the dishes and we sing and he dances, he looks forward to it every day. Just a few suggestions but I think he just needs a little more time to adjust and get more comfortable. :D
