Smile Help with parakeet.

Hi I'm new on here!

I have a parakeet named Cosmo. I had him for 3 years and I still can't figure him out.

He likes everybody else in the house BUT me. He stays in my room. I talk to him most of the time, but every time I get near his cage he tries to bite me. I want him to trust me more.

I also want to buy him a new cage. I don't like the one he has now. It's seems to clutter y(?) to me.

I'm afraid to handle him to the other cage. Is there an easier way to put him in the cage?

Neither of my budgies are tame but when I have to switch cages with them I just grab them and put them in. My female will bite sometimes but to me it doesn't really hurt. You could also get a dry washcloth and use that to grab him if he bites hard.

A good way that I use is to put the door of the old cage up against the door to the new cage and try to lure the bird in the new cage.

birds are difficult and i have my own biters. Cotton (real name: Cotton marshmellow X3) is my worst biter. she doesnt trust anyonbe since she was never handled when she was younger and i learned to gain her trust by first handling her "mom" which is angel then she would cry out for her and so i took her out aswell. but since your fid (feathered kid) is alone you should try feeding him out of ur hand

You may want to examine how you approach his cage - are you towering above him, or doing anything (unintentional, of course) that may be scary, from a birds' perspective?

Do you let your bird out of his cage? If so, I would position the old and new cages close together, with a ladder or long perch connecting the two, open Cosmo's door and let him explore on his own terms. My conure's new cage was a big play gym until he eventually decided it was safe to sleep in! :)
