My Cherry Head Conure is plucking herself, PLEASE HELP!
Hi there. I'm Jerry, new to the site. My cherry head, Polly, has plucked her left wing so much she can't fly anymore. And she's plucked just about her entire chest and both sides under her wings. I recently went away for two weeks on vacation with my family and left her at home with my grandparents and aunt, however they live there anyway. She's really attached to me so I know that she started because I was gone. She's plucked before because I was so caught up with school that I didn't give her the attention she needed. After that I bought her a perch so she could hang out in my room with me while I was busy and she had stopped plucking (Then it was only her chest that had been plucked). But after vacation I came home to a half naked bird. She with me right now finishing up a feather that looks like is really bothering her because every time I touch it she motions to bite so I just leave her be. I'll let her finish off that one but not start any new ones. She does seem like she has made some improvement however since her feathers on her chest are starting to grow back but she's still got a bunch of bald spots and no flight feathers. My uncle says she's nuts because of age but I want to do anything possible to help. I've had her since I was 2 and she's about 17 now. I got her a few days old and we all raised her as a family (albeit she's only attached to me). So any help would be greatly appreciated.
