macaw harness
I want to purchase a harness for my greenwing macaw (Mr. Neal). I have heard that some of the clasps on the harnesses contain zinc which is very dangerous for the bird. Can anyone recommend a harness that is safe for my little man? I am really scared to purchase one. :?

I realize that many folks have had success with harnesses. Just a word to the wise: only one of my 10 birds will allow a harness. The rest fight beak and nail and never settle down and enjoy wearing them. I have flight suits, too, and have a little better luck with them. Frankly, since I keep all of my birds clipped, I just prefer omitting the harnesses.
On one particularly bad day, my BG Dreamer actually managed to destroy the plastic clasp on 2 harnesses before I ever got him hooked up. It was so frustrating. He hates them most of all. Frankly, I think they give you a false sense of security. I have yet to meet a determined parrot that couldn't manage to wriggle out of harness. I use the falconer's grip (place your thumb across the birds toes) and use my free hand on their back when transporting them. THE OUTLAW

harness
Thanks for the info...Im not sure what to do, I was told that clipping the wings (neals are of course clipped) gives a false sense of security. That macaws can fly even with clipped wings. I think Neal will be okay in a harness..he pretty much will do just about anything....but I am concerned with the clasps..plastic or metal. Can you recommend a good harness? Thanks for your help :D
