Sick ME

I haven't ever been sick around my parakeet before, and I'm wondering if interacting with him (i.e. to change his seed and water and clean his cage) is a bad idea. I'd hate to give him any of my germs. (Probably just the flu, but still...)

With the RAREST of exceptions, your bird will be perfectly fine. Most avian disease and human diseases aren't able to survive out of their own element (ie human or bird).

Thanks...

That's what I figured, but I didn't want to take a chance.
