Many birds, when hungry or thirsty will go back in themselves.

I hope your bird has gone in by now!

My family calls me the pigeon lady. Birds love me. When I went to buy my 3 year old quaker they told me noone could handle her and she bites really hard. When I opened her cage she almost jumped out just to be on me and I had her stepping up within minutes. I went over to help a friend clip her tiels wings and that bird would not stay off me. I went over a few other times and the bird would always be on me. Her owner asked me not to let her out of the cage when I come over because she goes into depression for a day or two after I leave. I was given a tiel the was mean as a snake and had her on my shoulder within hours, giving me kisses. Some people are Snake charmers but I guess I'm a bird charmer. even when I go into pet shops birds come to me that I have never seen before.
I told you all that to tell you this. I wish I lived around you I think I could get her in her cage again.

Hey Crazy..........If it has a mate or playmate then you need to borrow or buy a trap cage quickly and put the "mate" inside the special compartment for it and some spray millet in the compartments for that. Most of the time IME you can catch them if done before they get lost or captured by something or someone else.

Once I caught a young finch way up in a tree with a direct strong spray of water using a pressure nozzle. I never thought that would work but the bird got just wet ENOUGH to cause it to glide to the ground somewhat when it started to try & fly away. This may or may not help. You have to have a good aim & timing as you will probably NOT get a second chance. Do have many people around to help watch exactly where it flys off to if it gets spooked. Even have someone ready on bicycle and in a car and have some binoculars available also. I would even plant someone on a rooftop or two to watch where it takes off to BEFORE SPRAYING or trying to net.

Also it may just simply come back down & climb around any screened window you may have or on the cage itself if you leave outside in a somewhat protected area. Be ready with a good bird net, just the right length and have someone with a good eye & quick reflexes and a good aim to be able to swoop it up. I am very good at that myself by watching the birds eyes and wing twitches to guess fairly accurately which direction it will take off to and I swing the net FROM that direction just as it takes off. Works almost every single time. :) .....Notify all neighbors to PLEASE keep their dogs & cats inside for a day or two. Bribe them if ya have to as a cat killed a lost Lovebird in my yard the other day that must have just escaped from someone. DARN!!!!!! :(

The bird, Starburst, escaped from his cage, into the house, and was back in within an hour... I too thought that it might have gone outside, however, I didn't see any worry in the post and figured that it was most likely inside where the bird escaped or flew from its cage...

One way is to use a towel, or basket, and throwing or tossing that over the bird...

Yeah Angel, thanks for that insight........ I immediately thought outside because of the way I interpreted the question due to the way it was worded and I guess because I keep most of my birds outside. That is one reason why it is always BEST for each of us to clarify every bit of info. we post here, especially when asking for help. Anyway the info. I provided from my experiences with escapees on the outside may help someone in the future who may have read it........

Monica, thanks for the update. :)
