Question on pin feathers

Okay so... I have a grand ol' time squeezing the white pin feathers around my gold capp's head and everything (very addicting)

But what about the bigger pin feathers? When they turn all white like the tail feathers or something... do you squeeze those too to help them shed the cover or do you leave teh big ones alone?

It seems the one on her tail hasn't really shed much... it looks really dry though?

Do you help with those ones??

Thanks guys!!!!

I read somewhere that if the bird doesnt let you preen their pin feathers, bathing the bird can help to get rid of the shell bit. I'm unsure if you should leave them or not but I'm sure someone else will know. In the mean time you could give the bird a bath is s/he likes bathing.

you dont have to leave them, they crackle just like the smaller ones do, just make sure it isnt a sensitive blood feather before you squeeze
your bird will let you know immediately if it is

I only help with preening on the head - if the bird allows it. I've got a couple birds that look like pin-heads cause they have nobody to preen their heads for them (or that they would ALLOW) so at least once a year they look like crap!

Everywhere else I leave alone because the birds can reach those areas! (although some birds can take touching in certain areas sexually) A good bath will of course help loosen the karetin.

i bet i jump 2ft off of the seat lol

she's just now getting to where she will let me get rid of the ones on her head and neck...theyre huge and so addictive
i wish she would let me sit and get them all but im happy to get like 3 or 4 of them off at a time

I would say leave the tail area for the bird to preen. The head and neck are the best areas to preen for them, since they can't do this part themselves. Rico and Jack are both going through a molt right now that seems to be lasting forever!

So I am guessing it doesn't get cold there in AZ. I was thinking to myself "wonder if Geek has sweaters for Chicken for when she takes her riding in the car?" I would love to see Chicken in a little Christmas vest for the holiday!!!

Thanks you guys!!

I'll give her tail one a try and see if she'll let me and if not I'll just leave it alone :)

She loves getting her pin feathers preened on her head so I'm thinking she would like the help :)

Thank you!!!
