Your cockatoo will have to go through quarantine most likely to make sure that he isn't sick and all that... It usually lasts around 30 days as well... Though if your cockatoo was born in the USA, and you had proof, it might make things easier to bring him in... Well, anyway, hopefully someone else replies soon so that you know the rules/regulations n such for bringing a bird into the US...

Where are you moving from?

I almost brought Corbett, our family amazon, from the USA to England with me. So I only know about OUT of the USA. However, I can tell you that many airlines will take birds. I was flying Britsh Airways, and they told me that Corbett would have to ride in a special compartment of the plane, and not with me, and that a member of staff would be there to make sure the animals are ok. So you can call individual airlines that you may want to fly, and ask if they will fly your bird. They may also know some of the requirements.

I asked this question before, and The Outlaw answered me. She sent me a link to the form that you need to bring a bird INTO the USA. I will try to find it and get back to you, if she doesn't see this and answer you first.

But don't worry - you won't be separated from your 'too. Most likely you will find a way to bring him. It's just a bunch of paperwork and expense.

Best of luck!

Here's what The Outlaw wrote to me when I asked the question (I live in England and want to bring my Humphrey back to the USA when I come back - whenever that will be)

It's not that hard. You need to apply with Fish and Wildlife. Here's the link:

bird carrier

they make bird carriers that are the size of carry on bags. when i moved to egypt (from the usa) i brought 2 birds with me in a carrier that i kept with me in the cabin.
i think your bird will have to be quarantined once you reach the states tho. a friend of mine just moved back there, and her african grey was quaratined for 6 months.

As for the carriers, I don't know if they will allow a larger too in the cabin. I know that whatever you have has to fit under the seat. I couldn't fly my BG macaw because of that restriction. Also, and probably the most important thing, is the weather. Most airlines will not ship birds unless its above 50 degrees F and under 80 degrees F on either end. That's getting pretty tough to accomplish already here in the states.
