budgie and redrump

i have a cock redrump and a hen budgie in my outdoor flight.. they are currently in love with the cock feedin the hen... are there any records of these birds mating??? many thanx.

There probably are, though budgies cannot hybridize with other birds. I don't know about redrumps (as I believe there are close relations between redrumps and other grass parakeets) though it would be similar to a budgie and a cockatiel mating, nothing would come of it, and eggs would be unfertile. I've had a male budgie 'mate' with a female bourke (another grass keet), though since a nestbox was not provided, her eggs were broken. If there were a place for her to have sit, she would have tired herself sitting on unfertile eggs.

I suggest for you to seperate these birds now and keep them going through any breeding behavoirs, unless you want to get suitable mates for each bird, pairing them off with mates of their own species and of the correct age of breeding.

ive taken the budgie out of the flight now.. there was a hen red rump and a cock budgie in the flight but the 2 took no notice of their own species..

You can try putting the species in seperate cages, or splitting the flight in half at a later time and putting each species on one side with their own mate.
