Help! Single Bourke Parakeet laid an egg!
Hello All!
I need help! My single female Bourke parakeet, Bubblegum laid an egg today on her favourite toy! You might have read that I got a male Bourke parakeet last week. He's in quarantine, so she has never been anywhere near him (to touch him), but she's seen him and calls to him! She's laid an egg, anyway! I followed the advice on this webpage: http://www.cockatiels.org/articles/breeding/eggs.html I have placed her in a new cage, removed all her regular toys, changed all the perches, seed dishes, and placed her in a different room. I took out the bedding in her cage, and placed newsprint so it's not comfortable to sit on. I will keep in light only 10 hours per day. Will this stop? I have an appointment with the avian vet on Saturday. She was acting bizarre lately, scurrying around the house, checking out potential dark spots for nest holes. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ramona |

It sounds like you are doing a good job, so far! Just keep an eye on her for a week, and if she continues to lay eggs then you should let her keep the eggs untill she gets bored with them... You've done great to follow the advice of the site!
