Question Need help w/budgie tiel relationship

I have 1 budgie Neo and 1 tiel Dandy. Any suggestions on how these 2 can get along. Neo is a hyperactive crazy bird non stop. Dandy is a layed back chilled out bird. I've gotten them out together on the playstand and Neo runs or jumps right for her to get on top of her :aiwebs_01 and he's obsessed with her crest he always goes straight for it. So she snapps at him and of course I'm afraid she'll bite him or they'll fight so I seperate them. Dandy will stay still but Neo trys to do air raids on her zip above her. Anybody who has a tiel and budgie that gets along. Any ideas on how I can do this better.

There is no way to make the two get along. They will either get along or they won't. My keets and tiels do not get along--they co-exist and we have them out at the same time, but the two stay apart on different bird fixtures in the house or with one of us or a piece of furniture, but they will not interact. They are different species and have no reason to be friends and in the wild they would not be friends.

I have a tiel and two budgies. One of my budgies, Smurf, sounds somewhat like Neo. He is very hyperactive and loves to flirt with all birds. He gets all round up especially if one of the birds becomes seduced by him. My budgies however are caged (for safety reasons mainly) and so Casey can safely visit them when she pleases. She loves to go exploring. The other budgie, Cosmo, is older and has become more laid back. He doesn't bother Casey.

You may never be able to have Neo and Dandy out together without one of them getting irritated, so you can keep them seperated or let them out at different times.

thanks for the replies I didn't really expect them to be friends I was wondering how to keep them more calm and tolerant of each other. But Monica I think your right I'll probably stick to having them out seperate. It just sucks because when one is out the other one wants out but yet they don't like each other. Looney birds! And they both like to be out forever. I'll just have to make them take turns.

I guess I'm Lucky

I got my budgie Sonny a few months ago. Rescued him from petsmart. He was so sad. wouldn't play or talk or sing much. he'd sit on my shoulder some, but that was it. I felt so bad for him I told him I'd get him a friend.

I didn't want to get another budgie though, didn't want to deal w/a bonding pair issues or them not bonding w/me, so a breeder suggested a tiel. I showed Sonny pics of Tinkerbell and we talked about his new friend.

I had fully intended on quarantining them, but Sonny on the next day after bringing Tink home, took off, clipped wings and all and found Tink's cage!

I was so scared that they would fight, i'd read that budgies are a bit aggressive, but they sat together and preened, then Sonny scratched Tink's head, then they birdy kissed, and have been best buds every since!

see my pic under flocks! I recorded the whole thing!

Tink is very bonded to me, Sonny is not. Sonny is jealous of me w/Tink and has started biting me, but we are working thru it. Tink would rather be w/me, but likes Sonny's company. Especially when I have to leave the house. they sleep seperately, but I let them both in Tink's cage when I go out during the day. they cuddle and nap together!

I'm sorry Neo and your tiel aren't getting along. It's a shame. But you can't force them to like each other! Remember though how smart budgies are and talk to him and explain how you'd like them to get along. Maybe it will work!Has anyone visited www.parrotresearch.com ? You should go check out Victor the worlds smartest budgie and listen to what these little fella's can do! It's really something. The group has been in Birdtalk mag, May 2005 issue and Bird Times & think is the other one. REally interesting stuff!
