DNA

I found a company in the USA that gives free testing kits for dna sexing. So i have 2 questions:

1.)Do you know of any companies in Canada that do this?

2.)How much is it usually?

I don't know of any Canadian companies, but I think that Avian Biotech has labs all over the world. I use them all the time. They charge about $20 for a DNA test and will provide free test kits. Not all labs are created equal. I think these guys are great.

Like Nancy, I have used Avian Biotech many times and have nothing negative to say about them. I have heard of two other companies that do it cheaper and I'll try to find out the names for you. I think one is in Canada.

I have never had to dna a bird, but I hear good things about Avian Biotech also. They seem to be the lab of choice in the USA.

Since Lisa brought up the subject of feather DNA sexing, I thought I'd put in my 2 cents. I used it once to DNA Margarita, my most special BG. When I tried to pull two chest feathers, as suggested, she screamed! It frightened the hell out of me. I didn't even get them out. In any event, it wasn't "painless" at all. The following day, I simply cut a nail a bit short, gathered the blood on the little blotter, and she didn't even know I did it.

**LOL**.. i've been there!!!
I used it on my double yellow head that was not going to hold still for a nail clipping.... I just got a growl out of him, and got a few from his back. I think it was less stessful for the both of us for the Feather sexing...however, the same day I did two greys with blood...both with Blood feathers. We had a slight emergency here with a broken blood feather I had to pull...I collected the sample and sent it off...the other grey I tried to clip nails, but NO blood..I did not want to go any shorter, being he is disabled, and needs to grip differntly then the normal guys...I grabed a blood feather and got his sample....
the outcome...I am surrounded with testosterone!!!
9 boys and my little miss Emma lynn!!!!
