Baby or Older Parakeet-Which Better Choice?
We finally found a local breeder of parakeets and plan to replace poor Fruit Loop soon. I am wondering if a baby parakeet or a 6 month old would be better? I guess the advantage of a baby is we could hand tame him, but you can't tell the sex when they're so young, can you? I'm partial to boy parakeets, and perhaps a 6 month old would be young enough to hand tame.

You should probably look for breeders who handraise the babies from 2 weeks old. That way you are SURE to have a sweet little one. Possibly try asking the breeder you found if he could do a special request, and handraise one of his chicks for you... I'm sure you could find many breeders in Florida as I believe Smurf came from Florida himself when he was younger (he came from a petstore that told me they buy their budgies from a Florida breeder, so I am guessing that is where he came from).
Either way that you do go about it, good luck!
