Question on wet nostrils

I was sitting with my gold cap conure (8 months old) when she sneezed and I felt a wet spray... I laughed about it for a minute and then realized that both for her nostrils are wet.... as far as I can tell it's clear and not gooey.... but there's just a little on both nostrils...

she's been pooping fine... haven't seen her eating although she usually doesn't right when I get home..... other than the wetness a tiny bit... she's not acting sick... she's playing on her cage right now...

Any thoughts? Does this happen normally? Should I be worried...

oh... she's eating right now....

thanks!

As long as it's only once, I wouldn't worry.

Sometimes they get a little overzealous when drinking and sneeze it out. It can be hard to judge exactly where the water line is, and she may have just dunked her face in a little far. Mine do that after they've bathed as well.

If it continues, I'd be a little concerned. Just watch her. Look for signs of illness, but I'm sure it's probably just a bit of water.

Does she bathe in her dish often?

She does bathe in her dish every other day or so.... I was holding for about 30 minutes before I noticed the wetness... it could have been there the whole time but she a red face mask so it's hard to tell..... I wiped away the water and watched for the next few mins and it wasn't wet again.... I'm going to check on it again and I'll keep you posted if it's wet again...

Can birds sometimes have just wet sneezes? Kind of like people do?

If other people have any thoughts please add them as well...

Thank you

My experience is that a bird will have a wet sneeze occasionally (once a day?). The time to be concerned if there is a constant discharge - especially a thick discharge - from the nostral area.

she's only sneezed once so far and the wet sneeze was after preeening herself... it still hasn't been wet since then.

Thank you for posting the website, that had some good info on it...

I will keep you updated if anything new happens... as of right now she has eaten again and is playing with a toy at the top of her cage

hopefully all is well... I would hate for her to not be feeling well

Well, anything that has nostrils is going to sneeze. It isn't always bad. Just keep an eye out for discharge, ruffled feathers, lethargy, etc. She sounds fine to me. :D

She dies sneeze a lot after preening or bathing which I know is normal but I just never noticed a wet sneeze like that before from either of my birds so I thought it was odd when I noticed it.

She was fine over the weekend, no more wetness and she was her normal playful self

Thanks for your answers
